    Botox Injections

Laughter, sadness, anger, and surprise -- your face shows all of your emotions to the world. All of these emotions put your facial muscles to the test, resulting in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Thanks to today’s technology, we can significantly reduce their appearance and prevent early wrinkles and fine lines from becoming permanent using neurotoxins: BOTOX and Dysport. BOTOX can also be injected into the underarms to reduce excessive sweating.

    Botox Treatment Overview

Laughter, sadness, anger, and surprise--your face shows all of your emotions to the world.

    What Botox does

The purified form of Botulinum Toxin A reduces movement of certain facial muscles that cause wrinkles in just 48-72 hours with full treatment effects seen in only 2 weeks! BOTOX and Dysport can address horizontal lines in the forehead, lines between the eyebrows, a dimpled chin, lines around the eyes (crow’s feet), and overactive masseter muscles which lead to a more “square” appearance of the face.

    How to prepare for Botox

You must be over 18 to receive injections. We cannot treat patients who are pregnant or nursing. You cannot be treated within 30 days of major dental surgery. We recommend not taking any blood thinners prior to treatment as this can promote bruising.

Neurotoxins may not be right for you if you’ve had recent surgical changes to your face, you have very weak muscles in the treatment area, you have a neurological disorder that affects the nerves & muscles in your face, or if you have an active infection in the desired treatment area.

    What to expect during Botox

The treatment is performed by physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and nurse injectors. There will be visible reduction in movement to the areas injected creating a smoother appearance to the skin which lasts for approximately three months. We will schedule a follow-up appointment two weeks after treatment to assess your results.

    Botox Postcare notes

    • Continue to move the muscles in the areas that were treated for the next two hours.
    • Do not massage or apply pressure to the treated area for at least 8 hours after treatment. We do not want the product to migrate to areas other than the ones being treated.
    • Do not wear a hat for several hours after injections.
    • Do not lie down for 3 hours after treatment. This could increase the changes of botox traveling to other areas.
    • Avoid vigorous exercise and yoga for at least 8 hours after treatment. You may return to your other normal daily activity immediately post treatment.
    • Avoid alcoholic beverages for the first 24 hours after treatment. Alcohol can increase the chances of bruising and swelling.
    • If possible, avoid aspirin and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (such as Aleve, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Advil, St. John’s Wort) or high doses of Vitamin E supplements for 2-3 days prior to and after injections. Taking these will increase your chances of bruising.
    • If you experience a headache after treatment, we recommend you take Tylenol.
    • Bumps and areas of swelling usually go away within an hour. Bruises will resolve in about a week. There is occasionally some mild pain, swelling, itching, or redness at the site of injection. You may apply cold compresses or take acetaminophen/Tylenol to reduce swelling or discomfort.
    • You may gently apply makeup after your treatment.
    • In the very unlikely event that you have difficulty swallowing or breathing, go to your nearest emergency department and follow up with SpaDerma when your symptoms reside
