    Facial Fillers

Fillers are used to add volume, create lift, and help achieve a younger looking, more refreshed version of yourself. Facial fillers, also known as dermal fillers, can be used in different areas of the face and our expert cosmetic injectors can help you determine which is best for you. Our goal is to provide natural-looking results that leave you feeling confident!

    What Are Facial Fillers?

In simple terms, a facial filler is a substance that gets injected into your skin to add volume. At SpaDerma, we use hyaluronic acid fillers from the Restylane and Juvederm product lines, two of the highest-rated and most popular brands. The hyaluronic acid filler is injected into the area of concern, whether it be your lips, cheek, chin, jawline, under eye, etc. to provide volume.

What Facial Filler Types Does SpaDerma Offer?

SpaDerma offers lip fillers, cheek fillers, chin and jawline fillers, and much more! We offer facial fillers at all of our Chicago and Wilmette locations. Whether you’re looking to restore volume to your face or plump those lips, we’ll provide the guidance and expertise you need to ensure you leave with amazing, natural-looking results!

    How do facial fillers work?

It all comes down to one magic ingredient, hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar that is naturally found in our bodies, which helps to hydrate the skin, smooth skin texture, and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. As we age, our hyaluronic acid decreases which can lead to facial volume loss and lip thinning. Fillers help to replenish lost volume and is a great anti-aging solution.

What to do before facial fillers?

You must be over 18 to receive injections. We cannot treat patients who are pregnant or nursing. You also cannot be treated within 30 days of major dental surgery. Please eat before your appointment. We recommend you do not take any blood thinners or drink alcohol 24 hours before treatment as this can promote bruising. If you are prone to facial cold sores, we recommend taking Valtrex or something similar for a few days before your treatment.

    Are facial fillers safe?

Facial fillers are generally safe when injected by a trained and experienced cosmetic injector. As with any medical procedure, there are some risks involved. The most common side effects of facial fillers include bruising, swelling, and redness around the injection site. These side effects typically go away on their own quickly. At SpaDerma, our cosmetic injectors are highly trained, licensed, and board-certified. We offer free consultations to determine a very strategic and customized plan that is best for your specific needs. Plus, hyaluronic acid is already a natural substance found in your body. We have you covered!

    Postcare notes

    • You may have significant swelling after injections, especially if lips were treated. Applying ice/cool compresses to the treatment area helps to reduce swelling. 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off five times a day is a general guideline. Avoid direct ice/frozen packs directly on the skin.
    • No lipstick for 24 hours. Apply Aquaphor with a clean Q-Tip
    • Taking an over-the-counter antihistamine (Zyrtec, Claritin) daily may help with swelling.
    • You may have bruising that develops immediately after the treatment but can take up to 48 hours to be noticeable. Most bruising that occurs will resolve with time on its own.
    • You may take acetaminophen/Tylenol for pain. It is best to avoid aspirin or NSAIDS such as Ibuprofen because they may increase your potential to bruise.
    • Once fully healed two weeks out from your initial injection, if you feel any lumps or bumps in the treated area, you may massage the lumpy area with constant pressure for two minutes and repeat up to five times a day. If the lumps or bumps are bothersome to you, please call our office.
    • Avoid strenuous exercise or activity for the remainder of the treatment day (including yoga, pilates, etc). You may resume other normal activities immediately and exercise after 24 hours.
    • If you experience any redness, itching, or welts, please call our office. Benadryl is an over the counter medication that can help.
    • Avoid drinking alcohol for a minimum of 12 hours as this may contribute to bruising and/ or swelling.
    • We recommend waiting a minimum of 2 weeks before receiving any facial, facial massage, skin care, or laser treatments to the face.
    • Additional treatments may be necessary to achieve the desired level of correction.

    FAQs

Are Fillers The Same As Botox?

It can be confusing, we get it. No, fillers and Botox are not the same. Botox is a muscle relaxer that helps to smooth out wrinkles but does not add volume. Fillers, on the other hand, add volume to the face. Both treatments can be used to achieve a youthful appearance, but they work in different ways.

How Long Do Facial Fillers Last?

It depends on the individual and the type of filler used. Some fillers may last for a few months, while others can last for several years. Ultimately, it is up to the individual to decide how often they would like to have their fillers refreshed.

    Do Facial Fillers Hurt?

Facial fillers are injected into the skin, so you may feel a little bit of pressure during the injection. We definitely wouldn't say it's any more than minor discomfort. The entire treatment usually only takes a few minutes and most people report minimal discomfort.

    Can Facial Fillers Age You?

This is a common concern but we can assure you that facial fillers will not age you. Fillers do the exact opposite and help to achieve a more youthful appearance. Fillers can help smooth out wrinkles and add volume to the face, which can make you look younger. The fillers will not leave your face stretched out.

What Is The Safest Filler For Your Face?

This is a difficult question to answer because there are many different types of facial fillers available and each person's skin is different. Some people may be more sensitive to certain types of fillers than others. Ultimately, it’s important to consult with a cosmetic injector at SpaDerma to see which filler is right for you.

How Often Should You Get Facial Fillers?

Again, this depends on the individual. Some people may only need to get facial fillers every few months, while others may need to get them every year or so. It depends on your goals and how your skin responds to the filler. If you are not sure how often you should get facial fillers, we recommend consulting your injector at each appointment.
